Solana Soars to 7-Month Peak, Bitwise Exec Predicts Major Year-End Rally

Solana has witnessed a notable surge, climbing 4% on Wednesday to reach a seven-month high of nearly $225, according to market observers. This upward trajectory could potentially set the stage for a significant rally as the year comes to a close, suggests Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise.

Hougan points to the growing demand from anticipated spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and digital asset treasuries as key drivers that could further propel Solana’s market performance. This optimism is not unfounded; Solana has seen a 25% increase over the past month, marking it as the largest gainer among the top 10 digital assets by market capitalization.

The recipe for success in the cryptocurrency market has been fairly straightforward for the last 18 months, according to Hougan. A mix of exchange-traded product inflows and robust corporate treasury investments has historically translated into substantial returns. Solana, with its current market dynamics, appears well-poised to follow this trajectory.

Digital asset treasuries have already been actively accumulating SOL throughout the year. Companies such as Upexi and DeFi Development Corp have each amassed over $400 million worth of Solana. Moreover, Forward Industries recently announced a $1.65 billion private investment in public equity, intending to significantly bolster its Solana treasury, a move that underscores the asset’s growing appeal to institutional investors.

The potential for Solana ETFs also looms on the horizon, with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission set to make decisions on several spot ETF applications. While nothing is certain, industry analysts have hinted at a strong likelihood of approvals for ETFs centered around Solana and other major cryptocurrencies.

While Hougan cautions that the approval of a spot ETF and the accumulation by treasury firms are not surefire predictors of success for SOL, the relative size of the asset makes it particularly susceptible to price movements driven by inflows. To put it into perspective, Forward Industries’ $1.65 billion investment could have an impact on Solana’s price akin to a $33 billion investment in Bitcoin.

Market sentiment towards Solana seems to be improving, as evidenced by the betting odds on Myriad Markets, where the likelihood of Solana reaching a new all-time high by 2025 has seen a notable uptick.

Currently, SOL is trading approximately 24% below its all-time high of $293.31, yet the recent movements and developments hint at a brighter future for this digital asset as we approach the year’s end.
