Scaramucci Foresees Solana Surpassing Ethereum

At the recent DigiAssets 2025 conference, Anthony Scaramucci, the founder of SkyBridge Capital, made waves by suggesting that Solana (SOL) has the potential to surpass Ethereum (ETH) in market capitalization. This assertion comes amidst varying perspectives on the trajectories of these two major cryptocurrencies.

Scaramucci’s stance is not rooted in skepticism towards Ethereum; rather, he acknowledges a greater familiarity and confidence in the trajectory of Solana. “While I don’t hold a negative view of Ethereum, I find the narrative surrounding Solana more compelling,” Scaramucci explained to his audience. This sentiment appears reflective of his investment strategy, as he admitted to entering the crypto market relatively late, with his first foray in 2020 bypassing Ethereum for other opportunities.

The SkyBridge Capital portfolio underscores Scaramucci’s bet on both Bitcoin and Solana, holding significant investments in both, alongside a diversification into other digital assets through various fund structures. SkyBridge has allocated a substantial portion of its corporate balance sheet to these digital currencies, with Scaramucci noting, “We have about $300 million in what we term a coin fund, which includes Solana among other digital currencies.”

This bold prediction about Solana’s capacity to “flip” Ethereum is not unanimously shared. Analysts at Standard Chartered recently issued a report presenting a divergent outlook. They anticipate Solana will underperform Ethereum over the coming years, citing challenges including declining usage and scaling issues that could hinder its broader adoption.

Alternatively, analysts from Cantor Fitzgerald present a more aligned view with Scaramucci, particularly bullish on the prospects of Solana and its appeal to treasury companies investing in crypto. “When examining Layer-1 protocols, Solana’s technology presents meaningful advantages over Ethereum across multiple metrics,” Cantor analysts wrote, suggesting a more optimistic future for Solana in the competitive landscape of blockchain technologies.

Yet, these varied analyses reveal the intricacies and divided opinions concerning the future of blockchain technologies and their respective leaders. As these technologies evolve, the market’s response could ultimately determine whether Solana’s advancements will indeed allow it to eclipse Ethereum, or if Ethereum’s foundational role and ongoing developments will secure its dominance for years to come.
